Update on Dublin City Council leaf collection arrangements

Residents and volunteers did a great job raking, bagging and piling leaves for collection on Saturday 7th. Alas, most of us were disappointed to wake up on Sunday morning (and on Monday morning) to see the results of our efforts still sitting on the kerbside awaiting collection.

The Council has assured us that they will finish the leaf collection task as promised. Tonight (9/11/2020) Council workers will work from 9 pm through to 4 am tomorrow morning. They will start at the Drumcondra Rd junction and expect to clear the piles of leaves as far as the junction with Gracepark Road.

There will be up to 5 trucks allocated to the task. The road sweeper will be out very early tomorrow morning along the same stretch.

The situation will be reviewed tomorrow with a view to planning the clearance of the next section from Grace Park Rd to Glandore Rd.

On Saturday last (7th), the dedicated collection day, Dublin City Council had trucks and a sweeper out. When they realised the scale of the work done by residents, they allocated extra resources in the course of the day.   Some trucks were out on Sunday too.   A huge volume of leaves and leaf filled bags were cleared – all gone for composting. Filled leaf bags were cleared all along the Avenue. The stretch of the Avenue along by Scoil Mhuire and St Vincent De Paul Infant School including houses no 1 to no 40 approx. was cleared.   Work is underway to clear the piles of leaves along the rest of the Avenue.

The Council has assured us that residents’ superb efforts will not be undone.

They are doing their best to get on top of the collection job.
